Apple says NO! to iPad Cutting Board

by kaplandj on February 7, 2011

I’ve been sitting on this one for months. I came up with this iPad Cheese Cutting board idea and my fabricators after some hard work were able to make one. I like coming up with creative ideas like I did with the  iPhone Sketchbook and Stencils. A few months back we received a call from Apple lawyers and we were told to stop selling them. The reason given was based on “likeness” issues. A Wood cutting board. Lord have mercy on my soul.

Not sure why I picked today to tell the world. Maybe that football season is over or something along those lines. Or it is Monday and I’m cranky.  Truth is I never sold any, but a few lucky people in the industry received a few (like at last WWDC). I still have a stack of them, along with original prototype. I think I’ll figure out a way to give them to the truly deserving among us. Maybe someone who thinks this is outrageous will blog or tweet about it and catch my eye. Just maybe.

Cheese board? Shouldn’t it be used for cutting apples? In bad joke, you don’t cut apple, Apple cut you.

The best IPad cutting board would be a real IPad with a wood-grain background pic.

  • Rhimmer

just perfect for cutting up apples on !

Seriously! Wheres the freedom of creation!!!! I think apple are getting over reaction. If they would be smart this could be a marketting technique showing that ppl love their product and they would do anything and everthing to incorporate them throu creation objects (i mean not the same as their f**king object). I truely think that these apple bastards are getting over reaction and that they should try to conceive it as a wooden piece instead of an ipad unless they woukd like to associate an ipad with a piece of wood in their delusions! Man i think u should sue apple for blocking ur creation and from threatening you! Gd luck it’s a nice product;)

Definitely a cool product. Too bad it is not being sold, I would have loved one! The top photo is flipped I think! or that is the backside … Buttons are in the wrong place. :)

While I won’t say that I will never buy Apple again (please, like there is a rational choice for the bulk of their products…) I will buy my next cutting board pho-tablet in Android dress…

The iPad looks just like a mini version of my big screen TV. Panasonic should sue Apple to change the design.

    apple SUCKS

Absolutely true. If a company has a record of letting this kind of thing go a rival company can file a suit on the grounds of patent abandonment.

As for the folks who condemn all of a company’s products because of this kind of thing need to grow up. I would imagine that Microsoft’s legendary misuse of confidential customer information or other rather enormous ethical violations hasn’t stopped these idealists from using Windows.

:( I really wanted one. I love my sketch pads with certain ‘likenessness’ to other Apple goods. This was the crowning glory to my fanboyism. I am a chef, and Apple lover to the max. Mix the two…? Serenity!

i have to have one of these :D

  • anon

i’d tell them to fuck off. if they decide to pursue legal actions, good let them. bring this to the national news and let everyone know how ridiculous apple is.

  • Mobiusoneace

I love apple but thats just ridiculouss

  • Risto Vainio

I’d been simply proud if I had created a design someone likes to pay a hommage like this. I’d sent flowers, not lawyers.

You only have to reply to trademark infringement in order to maintain ownership (trademark applies in this case). Full rights to copyrights and patents continue to exist regardless of any response to infringement.

I would love to have one :)

Umm.. Dad, why you keep pressing that thing with your index finger? That is a wooden cutting board, not iPad!

  • European

haha america … so happy to live in the sane part of the world.

  • Tom Paris

That’s another reason to say NO to Apple.

This is such an awesome idea… this should be seen as advertising for Apple. Plus, it’s not for haters, it’s for Apple fanboys and enthusiasts.

  • PearLover

Yet another example of fucked up american law…
